Carpet Cleaning Pre-Conditioning

The science of carpet cleaning focuses on magnetism and light reflection, not “aggressively scrubbing carpet fibers.”

Once topical soil removal is complete, “pre-conditioner” can be applied to the carpet.

Pre-conditioner helps to break the magnetic bonds foreign particles have with the carpet.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance and ensures quality carpet cleaning.

Topical Soil Removal

Removing dry soil from your carpets is over 50% of carpet cleaning and maintenance.

In fact, a stem cleaning should never take place before this step is complete.

Carpet Metrix will always take the time necessary for topical soil removal even if the “maid service” just cleaned.

Metrix Restoration made HISTORY in 2022 as the 1st Water Damage and Carpet Cleaning Company in the DMV Area to provide a customer convince portal & social media marketing/referral rewards system.

Prevent Carpet Staining and Soiling

The best way to prevent a spill from becoming a stain is to clean it up as quickly as possible.

Scoop up any solid matter from the spill, vacuum out as much of the spill as possible, and then treat the affected area with a stain removal product.

Meanwhile, to minimize soiling, vacuum regularly and ensure that all spills are thoroughly cleaned while making sure that all of the cleaning products used to clean the carpet are also fully rinsed.

Wearing house slippers and avoiding carpet contact with bare feet is also a great way to avoid soiling.

In addition, applying a Teflon carpet guard provides protection against oil and water-based spills while adding outstanding dry soil resistance to fabrics.

One coat can easily provide up to 3x more protection versus cleaning alone, making it well worth the investment, by extending the life and cleanliness of your carpets and upholstery.

Stain removal is needed to get rid of colored spills, pet urine, nail polish, gum, or any type of discoloration or foreign material in the fabric which cannot be removed by normal cleaning methods.

Specialized removal methods are often necessary, including heat tools and specialty solvents.

Carpet Soiling and Staining Defined

Soiling

Soiling is defined as the buildup of foreign particles resulting in oily residues on carpet fibers that easily attract dirt particles. As with staining, some fiber types are more prone to soiling than others. Polypropylene, for example, is particularly more susceptible to oil-based products, making it easily soiled.

Staining

Staining and soiling are often believed to be interchangeable terms. However, read any carpet manufacturer’s warranty information, and you will find that staining and soiling are distinctly separated, sometimes even carrying different lengths of warranties.

A stain is the most common concept of discoloration on carpets. It occurs when a substance has come into contact with the carpet and embedded itself in the fibers. Stains work themselves into the fibers by soaking into empty dye sites. Vacant dye sites are spots in the fiber that did not receive the colorant when the fiber was dyed. Fibers that have been dyed post-production (i.e., the fiber was first produced in greige form and then colored after) are most prone to staining. Solution-dyed fibers have the color added in before production of the fiber, when the fiber is still in liquefied form, so the color goes all the way through the fiber, leaving no open dye sites to absorb stains and are far less prone to staining.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you move furniture when you clean carpets?

Yes. We provide this service at no additional cost and we are professionally trained to move your furniture. We will move most furniture that can be safely moved. However, items such as pianos, electronics, china cabinets, beds, dressers with mirrors, pool tables, fish tanks, and fragile furniture will not be moved.

  • What should I do to prepare for a cleaning?

To prepare, we recommend removing pets and small children from work areas. We also recommend keeping valuables, breakables and of course vacuuming the carpet is always a big plus.

  • Are your cleaning products safe?

Carpet Metrix uses eco-friendly, water-soluble cleaning solutions that are not harmful to people or pets when used as directed.

  • How long will it take to clean my carpets?

Carpet Metrix allows an average two-hour service window. This time may vary depending on the amount of furniture to be moved, how soiled the carpet is, any necessary stain removal treatments, and or repairs such as carpet stretching.

  • Does Carpet Metrix also clean furniture and area rugs?

Area rugs are priced separately while upholstery cleaning starts at $9.99 per linear foot.

  • How long will it take for my carpet to dry?

Drying time is affected by humidity, temperature, and airflow in the area.  However, Metrix Restoration uses a powerful RotoVac CFX (www.rotovac.com) extraction system, able to remove virtually all water used in our cleaning method. This process leaves your carpet with minimal moisture, giving you fresh clean carpet that is usually 80%-90% dry before we leave.
